Happy Cinco de Mayo!

For this week's Family Friday, we will do a fun arts and crafts activity. In Holidays Around the World, children will learn about various holidays, including Cinco de Mayo. Children will then celebrate Cinco de Mayo by creating their own maracas. Read our step-by-step guide on how you can play this interactive activity with your child at home!

What you need:

  • 4 plastic spoons
  • 2 easter egg containers
  • Tape
  • Decorative paper
  • 2 rubber bands
  • Uncooked rice and/or beans
  • Scissors

Step 1

Open up your Footsteps2Brilliance App, and go to Level 2 (Yellow). In your library, find the Holidays Around the World  book series. Find the A-E book. Read the book with your child. Be sure to touch the illustrations to see the pictures come alive!

Step 2

Fill the easter eggs with rice and/or beans. Close the eggs once you are done.

Step 3

Tape 2 plastic spoons to either side of the easter egg.

Step 4

Using the decorative paper, wrap the spoons and egg. Then use the rubber bands to hold the spoons together.
