Happy 4th of July!

In this week's Family Friday you will make a pinwheel to celebrate 4th of July, our Independence Day. Read our step-by-step guide to celebrate with your own pinwheel in this fun 4th of July activity for kids!

What you need:

  • Pre-made printable template (here)
  • Thumbtack
  • Glue/Tape
  • Colored Pencils/Markers
  • Scissors

Step 1

Open your Footsteps2Brilliance App, and go to Level 2 (Yellow). Read the book Holidays Around the World: F-J.

Step 2

Print out the template (here).

Make cut 0. Set aside this strip, you will need to cut the circle out later.

Step 3

Decorate the pinwheel however you would like.

Step 4

Make cuts 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Step 5

Make folds 1, 2, 3, and 4 towards the center. Glue or tape them to the center circle as you go. These will cover some of the stars.

Step 6

Finish decorating your pinwheel.

Step 7

Cut out the circle from the strip you at the beginning and glue or tape it to the center of the pinwheel.

Step 8

Roll up a piece of paper, and glue or tape it so it is secure. This will be the handle.

Step 9

Using a thumbtack, carefully attach the center of the pinwheel to the paper handle. Be sure to only put it through the front side so it does not stick out of the back.  Blow on the pinwheel to make it spin. Now you are all set to celebrate Independence Day in style!
