The Lion and the Mouse

This week, you and your children will put on a puppet show based on the Aesop's fable The Lion and the Mouse. This fun activity is a great way to practice the skill of speaking out loud while learning social-emotional lessons from the story. Read our step-by-step guide to make the puppet show come to life for this social-emotional activity.

What you need:

  • Crayons
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Craft sticks
  • Pre-made puppets (page 1, here)

For 3 participants, each will need a copy of the prewritten script on page 2 (here)

Step 1

Click to read The Lion and the Mouse. You can find this book in your Footsteps2Brilliance app under Level 3 (Blue) in the Aesop’s Fables series. Read the book with your child, then complete the activity.

Step 2

Print and cut your lion, mouse, and narrator stick puppets.

Step 3

Color them in. Glue the colored puppets onto a craft stick.

Step 4

Have each participant choose one character. Using the script, take turns reading lines for your character. Be creative with the voices you use.

Have fun!
